The Maklithari Village Taverna is located in the traditional village of Makriotika, within the beautiful Pylaros Valley area of Kefalonia, and just 4 kms from Agia Efimia. The Taverna derives it's name from a large rock (known as Maklithari in Greek) which was once located a few metres further up the road and round which the villagers would gather of an evening for a chat. From this humble beginning it was a short step to providing these people with food and entertainment. Needing better facilities the taverna moved to it's current location.

Now run by Petrangelos and Katerina who have been welcoming guests to the Maklithari Taverna for a little over three years. However, Petrangelos has been catering for both locals and holidaymakers for many years as he used to run the taverna next door to the Maklithari, which has recently been re-opened as a coffee shop by the Municipality of Pylaros.

taverna, the names of villagers killed during recent wars are named here.

The Maklithari Taverna offers a good choice of home-made local dishes, grilled meats, salads and delicious ice cream if you still have room for a dessert! You can sit inside, on the veranda area outside the taverna or dine at one of the many tables in the village square. Wherever you choose the views down the valley towards Agia Efimia and the sea are beautiful.
